Parkwood Seniors and Veterans Golf
Club
A Member of the Gold Coast Northern District Golfers
Association
Parkwood members aged 50
years and over are eligible to join the Parkwood Seniors and
Veterans Golf Club, established under the auspices of the Parkwood
International Golf Course. Apart from conducting regular competitions at
Parkwood, the club participates in the NDGA District Shield competition
with the other Association clubs (Emerald Lakes, Tallebudgera,
Tamborine, and Gold Coast Country Club) Shield matches are
hosted by each club annually and all members are eligible to
participate. Thus five away games are included in our schedule. In
addition, the Association arranges overnight country games with
competitive accommodation and other costs.
Our own competition program includes Stroke, Stableford,
Ambrose and Four-ball events and we have reserved starting time blocks
each Tuesday and Thursday commencing at 7.00am (wintertime) and at
6.30am (summertime). AGU & WGA handicaps are processed by Parkwood
International through Golf Link.
The majority play 18
hole events but a small group play only 9 hole competitions. In this
way, the Club caters for those who, because of physical capacity, time
restraints or other commitments, prefer to play a reduced round.
Internal arrangements apply for 9 hole handicaps.
Most players stay on
after the games for snacks and refreshments prior to the trophy
presentations, establishing a strong social atmosphere.
In addition to the
Parkwood International subscription, the Seniors and Veterans Club has
annual fees (renewable by 31 December) of $150 for 18 hole players and
$100 for 9 holes. Pro rata fees apply for people joining during the
year. These cover all competition entries, trophies, District fees and
various member subsidies referred to later. Raffles are conducted at
functions to supplement funding.
Further to the District
Shield games mentioned above, the Club organizes 4 to 5 other games at
popular Gold coast Golf Clubs such as Southport, Robina Woods, Surfers
Paradise, Coolangatta and Gold Coast Burleigh with costs subsidised from
our funds.
Two major social
functions are conducted - a mid year lunch at Jupiters Casino and our
annual Presentation Dinner Dance in December. Both functions are
subsidised for members and their partners from Club funds, so we are
confident that prospective members will appreciate that membership of
the Seniors and Veterans Club offers great camaraderie and value.
Membership in the 18
hole ranks is approaching the limit but our 9 holes would welcome
newcomers to their ranks. Interested parties should contact Club Captain Brian Cook on 5529 0986
or Treasurer Frank Walsh on 5537 5576. For nine hole arrangements
specifically, the contact is Ron Armstrong on 5591 1623
